Carlos Moro has received this morning from HM The King of Spain, Felipe VI, the Innovation National Award in the category “Innovative Career”. The Innovation and Design National Awards are the highest awards given in Spain in the field of innovation.

This award recognizes entrepreneurs and professionals with an excellent career of at least 10 years, to whom innovation has been one of the most important characteristics. The award has been presented today in a ceremony at the Museo Arqueológico Regional de la Comunidad de Madrid, in Alcalá de Henares by the General Secretary of Science, Technology and Innovation from the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness of Goberment of Spain.

The event, chaired by their Majesties the Kings of Spain, has been started by the Secretary of State of Research, Development and Innovation, Carmen Vela Olmo. According to Carlos Moro: “This award is a great honor, it’s a recognition to small and medium sized companies` efforts towards development and innovation and encourages us to double efforts in our commitment for R&D&I”.

The other award-winning companies this year have been: Agencia Gallega for the Innovation, in the “Innovative public purchasing” category and Cosentino in “Internationalization”. Some of the award-winning personalities in past editions were Manuel Torres Martínez en 2015 (MTorres), Juan Miguel Villar Mir in 2013 (Villar Mir), Joaquín Moya-Angeler Cabrera (Corporación Tecnológica de Andalucía) in 2012 or Enrique de Sendagorta Aramburu (SENER) in 2011.

The jury was chaired by the Secretary General of Science and Innovation, María Luisa Poncela, and its members has been María Helena Antolín Raybaud, Maria Luisa Castaño Marín, Helena Herrero Çtarkie, Alejandro Legarda Zaragüeta, Francisco Marin García y José Ignacio Nicolás Correa.

Innovative career

The jury has valued Carlos Moro’s career and commitment with innovation, processes and innovative products in wine sector respecting the Environment, sustainability and using R&D&I as strategic key of competitiveness.

Carlos Moro understands innovation and sustainability as a global and strategic process for its group of companies. Grupo Matarromera has numerous national and international projects of R&D&I and 9 patents in different research lines including traceability, process improvement, design of non-alcohol wines, the extraction of polyphenols, functional of high-end cosmetics development or development of beneficial health supplements.

The investment in R&D&I in the past 2 decades is over 30M€. In wine sector, is it one of the companies with the highest budget in investment in R&D&I.

The jury has highlighted the consolidated career of the award winner in the field of Innovation in Spain.
